Attendees explore authentic manga illustration technique: character design and anatomy, expressive faces and dynamic poses, inking with dip pens, screentone application, panel composition, and the art of visual storytelling.

What Makes This Masterclass Different

We use the same materials and technique that professional manga artists use — including screentones, which most Canadian art studios don’t cover at all. Attendees don’t just copy existing characters; they build their own from the ground up.

Our Creative Host Vasyl led anime and manga sessions at the original Colibri Art Studio in Ukraine, where it became one of the most popular Workshops offered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know how to draw before joining?
No prior drawing experience is required. We cover manga technique from the ground up, including the foundational drawing skills that underpin them.
Tutorials show you what to do. Our Design Consultant can point out specifically what’s not working in a drawing — and more importantly, why. That feedback loop is what drives real improvement. We also cover professional technique like screentone application rarely covered in online tutorials.
Both — but the emphasis is on original character creation. We cover the technique and visual language of manga so attendees can apply them to their own ideas and stories.
Screentones are sheets of patterned dots, lines, or textures applied to inked manga pages to create shading, backgrounds, and special effects — a defining feature of professional manga. Most Canadian art studios don’t cover them. We do, because they’re part of what makes manga look like manga.
Yes. We assess each attendee individually at a trial session and place them accordingly. Skill level matters more than any fixed benchmark. Contact us if you’re unsure.
